Artistic and religious routes
Follow in the footsteps of pilgrims along
the Franciscan Way, which up until the Middle Ages was the
only route between England and Italy. Passing over the
Great Saint Bernard Pass and leading right the way to
Rome, following this ancient route will allow you to
discover numerous sanctuaries, solitary consecrated cells
and see a different side of Valle d'Aosta at a slower and
more attentive pace enabling you to take in all the
details of our precious history.
Situated
in the extreme north-west of Italy, Valle d'Aosta lays at
the feet of the southern side of Mont Blanc: to the west
is the French border and to the north, the Swiss border.
Valle d'Aosta is easily reached from the following
international airports- it is approximately 1 hour
from Turin (Caselle) airport , 1 hour 30 minutes from
Milan Malpensa and via the newly re-opened Mont Blanc
Tunnel, it is about 1 hour 30 minutes from Geneva Airport.

IN VALLE D'AOSTA
Situated on the Swiss and French borders and surrounded by
the most prestigious Alpine peaks - Mont Blanc, Monte
Rosa, the Matterhorn and the Gran Paradiso - all over 4000
metres high - Valle d' Aosta is a real paradise for winter
sports. Valle d' Aosta's 28 ski resorts, both small and
large, offer skiers modern and quick facilities, thus
preventing long queues. Artificial snow systems are on
hand to provide snow when nature has been less than
generous. 878 km of downhill slopes, 300 km of
cross-country slopes , 166 cable car facilities, 1234 ski
instructors (144 snow boarding instructors, 54 telemarking
instructors, 133 instructors specialized in teaching
handicapped adults and children), 185 Alpine guides, 105
Alpine refuges and bivouacs. These numbers guarantee the
best in winter sport: from traditional sports such as
downhill and cross-country skiing to ski mountaineering
and heliskiing. Not to be forgotten are the wonderful
walks with snow shoes, glacier climbing and why not a
